Papankusha Ekadashi is an important Ekadashi for Hindus, mainly the Vaishnav community. It is also known as Ashwin Shukla Ekadashi. This day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the sustainer of creation. Every form of Lord Vishnu is worshiped on this day. By observing fast on this day one gets freedom from sins and opens the way to heaven. It is said that even after performing thousands of Ashwameva Yagyas and hundreds of Surya Yagyas, one does not get even the 16th part of the results of this fast. It can be said that there is no greater fast than this fast. Whoever keeps vigil at night during this fast attains heaven. Significance of Papankusha Ekadashi



By fasting on Papankusha Ekadashi, one gets the same results as chanting and penance and three generations get freedom from sins. It is believed that fasting on this Ekadashi provides relief from the inauspicious effects of the Moon and brings good fortune. A person fasting on this day does not have to endure any kind of torture in Yamalok. While explaining the importance of this Ekadashi to Yudhishthir, Lord Shri Krishna said that this Ekadashi prevents sins i.e. saves from sinful deeds.

Papankusha Ekadashi fast worship method



On the day of Ekadashi, after waking up in Brahma Muhurta, taking a bath, etc., one should pledge to fast in front of God. After this, worship should be done by placing the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu on a post. First of all, Roli Akshat tilak should be applied to the Lord, and white flowers and basil leaves should be offered. After this, light a ghee lamp offer bhog, and perform aarti. After this Vishnu Sahastranam should be recited. On this day fruits are eaten once a day. Donations must be made on the day of Ekadashi. Even in the evening, perform aarti of God and do meditation and kirtan. The next day i.e. on Dwadashi Tithi, the fast should be broken after donating food and grains to the Brahmins.



Papankusha Ekadashi fasting story



In ancient times, a cruel fowler named Krodhan lived in the Vindhya Mountains. Krodhan had spent his entire life in wrongdoings like violence, alcoholism, etc. When the last time of his life came, Yamraj sent messengers to bring Krodhan. Yama's messengers informed Krodhana that tomorrow would be the last day of his life. Fearing death, Krodhan took refuge in Maharishi Angira. Seeing Krodhan's condition, Maharishi took pity on him and asked him to observe a fast on Papakunsha Ekadashi. By observing this fast, all the sins of anger were destroyed and by the grace of God, one attained salvation.

It was named Papankusha Ekadashi because of pierced the elephant of sin with salvation in the form of the virtue of fasting. On this day, there is a tradition of remembering God silently and singing bhajans and kirtans. In this way, worshiping God purifies the mind and infuses virtues in man.
