One day Narada Muni came to Indrasen's court through the sky. On seeing him, King Indrasen got up from his place and went to Narad Muni with full respect. His stage was washed away. Seeing such satire Narad Muni was very happy.

After some time, Narada Muni asked the king, are all the people in your kingdom well? King Indrasen said that by the grace of Lord Vishnu, everyone is well. Then Narada Muni again asked, are religious satsangs and yagyas, etc. held regularly in your kingdom? The king also laid the foundation of Hami. Indrasen asked Narad Muni the reason for coming to his court - then Narad Muni said that he had gone to Yamalok. When I saw my father there, he became very sad. For this they send messages. They did not get salvation after death, so they want you to do something for them. He said that in his previous life, he had broken the fast of Ekadashi. This is the reason why he did not get salvation.

King Indrasen asked Narada Muni, what will I have to do for this? Then Narada Muni had said – that ancestors get salvation only in Shraddha Paksha, hence you should fast on Ekadashi of Shraddha Paksha. By observing this fast many generations will attain salvation. King Indrasen asked Narad ji about the rules of fasting.

This is Ekadashi of Shraddha Paksha, by doing it elsewhere one attains salvation.

• This fast starts from Dashami of Ashwin Krishna Paksha. On the day of Dashami, take a bath in the morning and do puja at home, then take a bath in the river at two o'clock and perform the ritual of Tarpan.

• After the Shraddha ritual, the Brahmin himself should also eat food.

• The next day on Ekadashi, take a bath in the morning and take a pledge to fast for the whole day.

• Perform Shraddha again and feed the fruit diet to the Brahmins.

• After this, give some part of the food to cow, crows, and dog.

• On the second day, after performing puja, feed the Brahmins and give them Dakshina. Eat food with the whole family.
