When is Dussehra this year?

Dussehra, which is considered to be a symbol of the victory of good over evil, is falling at the beginning of October this year. According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. According to mythological beliefs, on the day of Dussehra, Lord Rama killed Ravana, the Lankapati. For some reason every year the effigies of Kumbhakarna and son Meghnad are burnt along with Ravana as a symbol. It is a festival celebrated with pomp all over the country. Along with this, Durga Puja also comes to an end with this day. The auspicious festival of Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month. It is also known as Vijayadashami.

Dussehra 2024 Date

Dussehra festival is celebrated 20 days before Diwali. This year Dussehra will be celebrated on October 12, 2024. Before this, there will be Navratri of Maa Durga for nine days.

Importance of Dussehra

According to the story, two stories are the most popular for celebrating Dussehra. According to the first story, Lord Rama defeated Ravana on Ashwin Shukla Dashami and conquered Lanka. That is why this day is celebrated as Vijayadashami or Dussehra. On the other hand, according to another story, Maa Durga fought a fierce battle with Mahishasura for 10 days and killed her on Ashwin Shukla Dashami. That is why this day was celebrated as Vijayadashami. Both these events show the victory of good over evil. There is a mythological belief that weapons should be worshiped on this day. Not only this, but warriors also worship their weapons on this day and also celebrate victory.

Vijayadashmi Worship Method

On the day of Vijayadashami, after bathing in the morning and wearing clean clothes, worship Lord Shri Ram, Goddess Sita, and Hanuman Ji. On this day people make 10 balls from cow dung. Barley seeds are planted on those balls. After that God is worshiped by lighting incense and Diyas and the balls are burnt.

Lord Shri Ram had stopped the arrogant Ravana. In its happiness, floats are taken out. Fairs are held. The enthusiasm of the people is visible in sight. It is believed that after the end of Dussehra worship, the feeling of greed and ego disappears from the mind.
