Significance of Magh Purnima
On the day of Magha Purnima, there is special importance on going to the Magh-Mela and taking a bath at Sangam. According to the Puranas, on the full moon day in the month of Magha, the deities come to earth and bathe in the Ganges. In this auspicious coincidence, do charity and mantra, and they are pleased. According to the Puranas, on the day of Magh Purnima, Lord Shri Vishnu himself resides in the water of the Ganges. By taking a bath in the Ganges on this day, one gets the blessings of Vishnu and one gets wealth, wealth, fame, happiness and good fortune, and good children. Magh Purnima Story
According to legend, a Brahmin named Dhaneshwar lived in Kantika Nagar. He used to live by begging. The Brahmin and his wife had no children. One day while begging in the city, people taunted the Brahmin's wife by calling her barren. Also, refused to give him alms. This made the Brahmin's wife very sad. After this incident, someone asked him to worship Maa Kali for 16 days.
The Brahmin couple worshiped for 16 days following the rules. Pleased with the worship of the couple, Maa Kali appeared on the 16th day and gave her the boon of getting pregnant. Along with this, he also said that lighting a lamp on the day of the full moon and gradually increasing one lamp on every full moon. Burn like this for at least 32 numbers and both husband and wife together keep a full moon fast.
As told by Maa Kali, the Brahmin couple started lighting lamps on the full moon day and kept fast. By doing this the Brahmin became pregnant. After some time the Brahmin gave birth to a son. This son was named Devdas. But Devdas was short-lived. When Devdas grew up, he was sent to Kashi to study at his maternal uncle's house.
An accident happened in Kashi due to which she got married by deception. After some time Kaal came to take his life, but that day was a full moon and the Brahmin couple had kept a fast for a son. Because of this, death could not harm him even if he wanted to. This gave life to his son. In this way, by fasting on the full moon day, one gets freedom from all troubles and all wishes are fulfilled.
Must do this work on Magh Purnima
Bathing on Sangam beach, holy rivers, and lakes have special significance on Magha Purnima. That's why on this day one must bathe in any holy river or lake including Ganga. If this is not possible, then you can bathe at Brahma Muhurta by mixing water from any river like Ganga, Yamuna, or Saraswati in the water. By doing this, the sins of the previous birth of the person have also washed away.
Worship of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi has special significance on this day. By worshiping her on a full moon, her blessings are showered on the devotees and all the sorrows of their life go away.

After bathing with Ganges water on Magh Purnima, Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Lakshmi should be anointed with milk and Ganges water. After this Sri Suktam or Kanakdhara Strot should be recited. By doing this, the grace of Goddess Lakshmi always remains in the person.
Worshiping the Peepal tree on Magh Purnima is considered to be of special importance. The Peepal tree is considered dear to Lord Vishnu. On the day of Magh Purnima, offer water mixed with milk on the Peepal tree and light a ghee lamp. By doing this you get the blessings of Lord Vishnu as well as the ancestors.
