People say about Kabir's parents that when two travelers, Neema and Neeru were going to Banaras after marriage, they both stopped near Lahartara lake for rest. At that time Neema found Kabirdas ji wrapped in a lotus flower. Kabir's birth can be considered similar to that of Krishna. Just as Krishna's mother was different and the one who raised him was different, similarly Kabirdas's mother was different and the one who raised him was different.


Kabir was illiterate, he got the knowledge of scriptures from his Guru Swami Ramanand. Saint Kabir Das had to face many difficulties even to get an education from his Guru. Once Ramanand Swami was protesting against social evils, when Kabir came to know about this, Kabir went to meet him. When Kabir reached his door and requested to meet him, he came to know that Swamiji does not meet Muslims, but Kabir Das did not give up.


Swami ji used to go to Panchganga Ghat for bathing every morning. Kabirdas ji went to the ghat and slept there to meet Swami ji. When Swami ji came out for bathing, his sandals touched Kabirdas. Swami ji said Ram-Ram and asked Kabirdas ji who he was. Kabirdas ji said that he was his disciple. Then Swami ji asked in surprise when did he made Kabirdas ji his disciple. Then Kabirdas ji said that just now when he gave him Guru Mantra saying, Ram... Ram, then only he became his disciple. Swami ji was pleased to hear such words of Kabir and he made Kabirdas ji his disciple.


Talking about Kabirdas's domestic life, Kabir was married to "Loi", the adopted daughter of Vankhedi Bairagi. Kabirdas had two children her, son "Kamal" and a daughter "Kamali". Kabirdas' son did not like Kabir's views, this is mentioned in Kabir's works. Kabir has not mentioned his daughter Kamali anywhere in his works.


It is said that Kabirdas never wrote poems, he only spoke them. His poems were later written by his disciples. Kabir was very fond of the company of saints since childhood, which is mentioned in his works. Kabir's works mainly include Awadhi and Sadhukkari languages. Kabir is considered to be the leading poet of the Ram Bhakti branch. In his Sakhis, there is mention of the knowledge of the Guru and all societies and devotion.
