In Hinduism, worship of Lord Shiva has been given special importance. Bholenath has been described as very innocent in the scriptures. Even though other gods have to make a lot of effort to please them, this is not the case with Bholenath. It is believed that those devotees who worship Mahadev with a true heart, Lord Shiva, always remain pleased with them. Lord Shiva becomes very happy with his devotees by offering very simple worship, water, and Belva leaves, and gives them blessings.


The reason for not offering Tulsi leaves on the Shivling is related to both religious and mythological perspectives. In Hinduism, Tulsi is considered to be extremely sacred and divine and is especially associated with Lord Vishnu and Shri Krishna. Shivlinga is a symbol of Lord Shiva. The main reasons why Tulsi is not offered on Shivling are given below:


Tulsi Is Not Offered To Lord Shiva Due To Religious Reasons


It has been made clear in the Shiv Puran and other texts that offering Tulsi leaves on the Shivling is forbidden. Belpatra, Aak, Dhatura, Kush, etc., are used in the worship of Shiva, while Tulsi is considered dear only to Vishnu. Each deity has a different method of worship. Just as Belpatra isn't always provided to Lord Vishnu, Tulsi isn't always provided to Shiva.


Mythological story - Know why Tulsi is not offered to Lord Shiva


According to a mythological story, Tulsi's name in her previous birth was Vrinda. She became the wife of a demon named Jalandhar. Jalandhar was a part of Lord Shiva. But due to his bad deeds, he was born in a demon clan. Asur Raj Jalandhar was very pleased with his bravery. Everyone changed into very disillusioned with him. But still no one could kill him. Because his wife Vrinda was a devoted woman, due to her influence, the demon remained safe.


For the death of demon Jalandhar, it was very important for Vrinda's pativrat dharam to end. When the atrocities of the demon king Jalandhar started increasing, for the welfare of the people, Lord Vishnu took the form of the demon Jalandhar and broke the chastity of Vrinda. When Vrinda came to know that Lord Vishnu had broken her chastity, she cursed Lord Vishnu.


Angered by Vrinda's curse, Vishnu Ji told her that he was protecting her from the demon Jalandhar, and he cursed Vrinda to turn into wood. Here, after Vrinda's chastity changed into destroyed, Lord Shiva killed the demon king Jalandhar. Due to Vishnu Ji's curse, Vrinda later became Tulsi. It is said that Tulsi is cursed, and her husband was killed by Shiva Ji, so she is not worshipped in Shiva worship.

Tulsi is very dear to Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu married Tulsi in the form of Shaligram, a form of Lakshmi. Apart from this, there is a tradition of offering Tulsi to all the gods and goddesses. But apart from all this, Tulsi is prohibited in the worship of Lord Shiva, one of the biggest gods of Hinduism and one of the Tridev.
