Types Of Voodoo - Astrological Insights

Primitive people in various parts of the world, when subjected to witchcraft or black magic, may become seriously ill or die. Voodoo (Voodoo) is reported among the Negroes of Africa and Haiti and the aborigines of Australia. In 1964, educated and civilized people found it difficult to believe that there still existed areas where witchcraft was practiced.

The treatment of the sick in ancient Hawaii was based on the belief that ill health was caused by evil spirits or demons causing illness. Illness was regarded as the result of witchcraft, or in some cases, a consequence of prohibition. There was a group among the Hawaiians, the Kahuna or "those who keep secrets," whose wisdom was derived from divine guidance. The Kahuna were divided into various categories, some good, others bad. Witchcraft was practiced by a group called the Kahuna Aina.

Different Types Of Voodoo

Voodoo, also called Vodou or Vodun, is a spiritual and religious tradition with deep roots in African, Caribbean, and American cultures. It blends elements of African religions, Catholicism, and indigenous beliefs. There are many types of Voodoo depending on geography, cultural influences, and practices. Here are descriptions of the main types of voodoo:

Haitian Vodou

Haitian Vodou is the most widely known form of Voodoo, originating in Haiti. Practitioners worship a supreme creator called Bonde and interact with intermediary spirits known as loa (or lwa), such as Papa Legba, Erzulie, and Baron Samedi. Rituals often involve drumming, dancing, veves (sacred symbols), and spirit possession.

Louisiana Voodoo (New Orleans Voodoo)

Louisiana Voodoo advanced in the southern United States, particularly in New Orleans. It blends African beliefs with French, Spanish, Catholic, and Native American traditions. Key elements include the use of gris-gris bags (charms), voodoo dolls, and rootwork (folk magic). Historical figures such as Marie Laveau played a significant role in its popularity and legacy.

West African Vodun

West African Vodun is the original and traditional form of Voodoo, practiced by the Fon and Ewe people in countries such as Benin, Togo, and Ghana. It focuses on the worship of Vodun spirits and ancestors. Rituals include drumming, dancing, making offerings, and spirit possession. This form of Voodoo is deeply rooted in cultural and tribal customs passed down for generations.

Dominican Voodoo (21 Divisions)

Dominican Voodoo, also known as the 21 Divisions (Las 21 Divisions), is a form of Voodoo practiced in the Dominican Republic. It blends African spiritual beliefs with Catholicism and indigenous Ta├нno influences. The system is divided into 21 spiritual divisions, and practitioners worship spirits called Mysterios. Rituals often involve prayers, offerings, and statues of Catholic saints.

Cuban Vodou

Cuban Vodou developed in Cuba through the influence of West African traditions, particularly those of the Kongo and Dahomey peoples. Cuban Vodou emphasizes spirit possession, ancestral worship, and ritual offerings. Though less known, it is an important component of Cuban spiritual life.

Brazilian Vodum (Candombl├й Jeje)

Brazilian Vodum is part of the Candombl├й religion, specifically the Jeje tradition found in Bahia, Brazil. It originated from the Vodun practices of the Dahomean people brought to Brazil during the transatlantic slave trade. In Candombl├й Jeje, practitioners honor Vodun through music, dance, and offerings. It shares similarities with other Afro-Brazilian and Afro-Caribbean traditions.

Conclusion

A Voodoo temple is a sacred region used for Voodoo rituals, ceremonies, and the worship of spirits or deities. These temples exist in various cultures where Voodoo is practiced, such as Haiti, West Africa, and parts of the Caribbean and the Americas. The structure, symbols, and purpose of a Voodoo temple may vary depending on the type of Voodoo tradition. If you want to know more about the types of Voodoo, then talk to Astrologers.
