Satyavan Savitri Katha
According to the ancient story, a pious king named Ashvapati ruled in Madra country. He had no children. The king performed a yagya to get a child, as a result of which he got a daughter after some time. The king named this daughter Savitri. When Savitri became of marriageable age, she chose Satyavan, son of Dyumatsena, as her husband. Satyavan's father was also a king but he had lost his kingdom due to which he was living a very poor life. Satyawan's parents also lost their eyesight.
Satyavan used to cut wood from the forest and sell it to make a living. When the talk of the marriage of Savitri and Satyavan started, one day Narad Muni reached there and told Savitri's father King Ashvapati that Satyavan had a short life and would die within a year of marriage. After which Savitri's father tried a lot to convince her but Savitri did not change her decision.
Finally, Savitri and Satyavan got married. After this Savitri started serving her in-laws and husband. Time passed and the day came about which Narad Muni had told. That day Savitri also went to the forest with Satyavan. As soon as Satyavan started climbing a tree to cut wood in the forest, he started having unbearable pain in his head and he lay down with his head in Savitri's lap.
In a short while, Yamraj himself was standing in front of them with many messengers. Yamraj started walking towards the south with Satyavan's soul and Savitri, the devoted wife, also started following him. Seeing her coming behind, Yamraj said, "O faithful woman! A wife supports her husband only till the earth. Now you go back." On this Savitri said, "Wherever my husband lives, I have to stay with him. This is my duty as a wife." Hearing the answer from Savitri, Yamraj was very happy. He asked Savitri to ask for a boon and said - I give you three boons. Tell me which three books you would like to take.
Then Savitri asked for eyesight for her parents-in-law, asked for her father-in-law's lost kingdom back, and asked for the boon of becoming the mother of a hundred sons of her husband Satyavan. Hearing these three boons of Savitri, Yamraj blessed her and said- Amen! It will happen. After this, Savitri returned to the same Banyan tree where Satyavan was lying dead. Satyavan's dead body came back to life.┬а
Thus, with the power of her devotion to her husband, Savitri not only brought her husband back to life but also gave eyesight to her parents-in-law and got her father-in-law's lost kingdom back. Since then, there has been a tradition of worshipping the Banyan tree on the day of Vat Savitri Amavasya and Vat Savitri Purnima. By observing this fast, the wishes of fortunate women are fulfilled and their good fortune remains intact.
Conclusion
This means that pativrata women are capable of keeping their husbands away from every pain and suffering. Just as Savitri had freed her husband Satyavan from the clutches of Yamraj on the strength of her pativrata dharma. Not only this, she had also regained the lost kingdom and the eyesight of her blind parents-in-law. In the same way, women should also consider their husbands as their gurus. They should not wander here and there in the name of Guru Diksha.┬аThrough talk to astrologers, you can learn in detail about the Satyavan Savitri Katha.
