What is Holashtak?

Holashtak means eight days before Holi. It is believed that the demon Hiranyakashyap troubled the devotee Prahlad in many ways during these eight days. That's why no auspicious work is done these days. In these days, entry into a new house, marriage, shaving, and starting a new business should be avoided. These days are not considered auspicious. During this, there is a need to take special care of worship. Chanting some mantras and following the method of worship brings happiness in life.

Chant Mantras, Do Penance, And Meditate In Holashtak

The time of Holashtak is considered very auspicious for chanting, penance, and meditation. It was during these days that devotee Prahlad had an unwavering devotion to Lord Vishnu. Prahlad's father Harinyakashyap did many atrocities on his son and tried to kill him many times, but every time his life was saved by the grace of Vishnu. Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya(ऊँ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय ) mantra should be chanted during these days. If you are a devotee of Lord Shiva, then offer water and milk on the Shivling. Chant the mantra Om Namah Shivay(ऊँ नम: शिवाय). If you are a devotee of Hanuman Ji, then recite Hanuman Chalisa by lighting a lamp in the Hanuman temple. These days special worship should also be done to Balagopal, the child form of Lord Krishna. Abhishek the Lord with Dakshinavarti conch. Chant the mantra Krun Krishnaya Namah(कृं कृष्णाय नम). Negativity remains more active during the days of Holashtak. Due to this negativity also increases in our thoughts. Importance of Holashtak

According to the scriptures, it is considered auspicious to worship God during Holashtak. It is said that during this time a branch of a tree is cut and planted on the ground and a colored cloth is tied to it. The branch of this tree is considered to be the form of Prahlad, a devotee of Vishnu. It is said, in the area where the branch of that tree is planted, no auspicious work takes place in that area till Holika Dahan.

Why Auspicious Work Is Not Done In Holasthak

It is considered prohibited to do auspicious works for 8 days in Holashtak. It has been said in the scriptures that auspicious works like 16 rites like a naming ceremony, sacred thread ceremony, housewarming, and marriage rituals should not be performed these days. At the same time, any kind of Havan, Yajna Karma is also not performed these days. It has also been told in the scriptures that at the beginning of Holashtak, the girls who have got newly married should stay in their maternal home.
